Ted Baker has finally reached Houston, and brought a little piece of London right along with it. As Houston slowly breaks out of the corporate norms and into a more creative atmosphere, designers are taking notes and growing with this new fashion forward city. I had the opportunity to cover the Ted Baker #TedTakesOff Grand opening at the Galleria for the LCA Houston International Society News Magazine, while surrounded by shopping, endless English bites, and live music. The dressing rooms were in constant rotation, and the lines to stock up on outfits were endless. Clearly a successful lift off in Space City for the London brand.
Ted Baker stores are well known for their purposeful interior design, and this location was nothing short of perfect. NASA themed décor filled every corner of the room; from rose gold astronauts to retro space mirrors lining the walls. Light fixtures and blinking LED’s imitated the inside of a space station, while whimsical teacups dangled in zero gravity from the ceilings. Bold metallics added a chic element to the room, and created a trendy atmosphere for shopping. This look provided a clean palette for the pastels and floral pieces that are taking over closet spaces this season. Perfect for the office and your daily tea party might I add. The men’s line is still as sophisticated and dapper as it ever was, but sprinkled with a little summer influence. This includes everything from brocade bow ties and blazers to flamingo short sleeve shirts. There is no shortage of variety in the style department, but that was a given knowing the spectrum of designs the brand already covers.
The event itself was hosted with a flare. English style hors d’oeuvres of cucumber sandwiches, shepherds pie, and fish and chips were making their way around the store. Throw in crafty, smoking, nitrogen cocktails (Which by the way tasted absolutely amazing) by The Freezing Point, and you have yourself a perfect blend of London meets Houston.
